I’m Gillian and I’m a Humanist Celebrant who works all over Scotland, but particularly in the Central Belt.
I’ve had an interesting career trajectory, initially training in the performing arts, before embarking on a career in the music industry where I worked for bands such as Franz Ferdinand and the Arctic Monkeys, after which, I finally I put my degree to good use and taught Drama for a number of years!
I came to Humanism through the experience of writing and performing readings at a number of friends and family weddings. To me, Humanism embodies all of the values that I hold dear – those of creativity, inclusivity, empathy, progressiveness, reason and tolerance. I see my role as a Humanist celebrant as a form of creative expression and I feel privileged to be entrusted with your story.
A ceremony which honours exactly who people are, filled with the best anecdotes, memories and unique flourishes is the best way to celebrate any major life milestone. I am always up for ceremonies that are quirky and open to ideas. Over the past few years I have conducted ceremonies on a beach on the Isle of Iona, a hill in Glencoe, Arthur's Seat, Roslin Glen, on a farm and in a tattoo shop!
Outside of being a celebrant, I love creative writing, photography, going to gigs and enjoy learning other languages. I'm currently learning Japanese but also speak some French and Gaidhlig, which I've used in some of my ceremonies.
If you connect with any of this and feel that I would be a good match for your ceremony, then I’d love to hear from you!
